Comparisons between retro and modern games

Computer games have come along way since the 1980's. The very first game that were made, were all made up of sprites, which made them extremely simple to look at. The first game was pong which gave a birds- eye view of two rectangles representing tennis players and a square which the player would hit to the other square to represent a ball. Retro games used simple shapes with sharp edges that were made up of large pixels. All retro games were in 2D and had quite a simple gameplay style. They were all quite Linear in terms of progression and didnt really have a story or body to them. They all were just one level which you would try to get as far as possible in.

In the 90's games started getting a lot better. For instance grand theft auto came out, which was a birds- eye view but had a lot more colour and there was more of a story compared to games in the 80's. It also had multiple things that you could do in the actual game world, like driving a car, then getting out and shooting, whereas in The older games there was mostly only one action that could be perform (mostly moving side to side, or up and down and shooting).

Games went even further again in the late 90's and early 2000's. Games like spyro and crash bandicoot allowed the player to roam around a 3D world and perform complicated actions like flying. They also had cut scenes, side missions and allowed the player a alot of freedom to do what they want instead of just doing missions.

Nowadays games are extremely realistic and the graphics are full HD. First person and 3rd person shooters are most popular, they allow you to play online in a realistic map of a city and fight against people from across the world on games like call of duty. It also allows you to customise your charactr fully.
